Electric propulsion systems in the automotive industry pose new production challenges, and often laser-based processes provide viable and important solutions. Our Technology Briefing acquaints you with current and possible future laser applications in specific EV-related production processes.

The following topics will be addressed:

  • Specific material issues: copper, aluminium, steels in EV applications, properties of alloys and semi-finished products.
  • Laser welding: Wavelengths and material-related absorption; specific process issues; appropriate laser sources and optical systems.
  • Current application examples and trends: Battery cell production, battery system production, power electronics and cables, cooling systems, fuel cells.
