The core of the car: The car body

  • it governs the car’s design and quality perception
  • it is essential for the car’s stability, safety, robustness, and dynamic behaviour
  • its weight is decisive in reducing CO2 emissions
  • it represents the most complex OEM-self-built vehicle part, requiring highly intensive collaboration across all production sections
  • its series production has the greatest footprint and requires the highest energy costs and investments

Lightweight

Lightweight design is the most prominent keyword in connection with car body engineering, often dominating discussions, but it is the compliance with further important OEM development goals – such as global production flexibility, cost efficiency and product and process sustainability – that determines whether specific weight reduction solutions can and will be realized in the end. However, the ranking and extent of these further demands varies for different OEM and different vehicle segments – there is no such thing as The solution for an efficient car body lightweight design. The decisive factor for the success of an innovation is knowledge and consideration of all relevant factors – and, in turn, an extensive exchange between all development partners is key for such knowledge.

The connection to the AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING CONGRESS?

To promote this exchange, and to evaluate all important developments that are being put forward for future car body engineering solutions, from functional steel-based lightweight design to the innovative use of light metals to the ecomomically viable application of fibre reinforced plastics is the aim of the Automotive Engineering Congress 2015. Especially the combination of all these materials in an intensive material mix, with all its consequences for the subsequent production processes, will be discussed.

CONGRESS SCOPE

  • Production flexibility
  • Cost efficiency in development and production
  • Lightweight design
  • Product and process sustainability

The connection to the AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING EXPO?

In the immediate neighbourhood and connection to the Automotive Engineering Expo, the focus trade fair presenting newest supplier innovations concerning the entire car body process chain, the congress offers you the unique opportunity to hear about latest developments of important system suppliers and research institutions as well as technical outlooks of international OEM, from the concept stage to process planning to series production of the complete product "painted car body", in the press plant, body shop, paint shop and final assembly.
