For the 8th time, the Doors and Closures Awards were bestowed on innovative OEM series hang-on part developments presented during the conference. With the Award winners determined through the voting of all conference participants, 2017 for the first time saw two separate Award

TuK-Award-neutral

competitions:

The Doors and Closures Systems Award was given to the most compelling hang-on-part development presented holistically by their OEM developers, in their construction, performance and production.

The Doors and Closures Technical SolutionsAward, on the other hand, was given to the most impressive specific innovation implemented in a series hang-on part and explained in detail at the conference.

At this premiere, in fact, both Awards were won by the same company for the same vehicle:

Jaguar Land Rover won the Systems Award for their excellent presentation and explanation of the doors and closures of the new Range Rover Velar. Presenters Barry Brough and Clark Jones explained about a variety of new features in the vehicle’s hood, doors, fender and tailgate systems, ranging from substantial weight savings, impressive gap and flush optimization to innovative sealing systems and a novel roof spoiler design greatly reducing dirt deposition on the rear window.

Equally, JLR came in first in the Technical Solutions Award competition with a stunning presentation and demonstration of the new door handle system developed for the Velar, which left a great impression with the expert audience. The electrically driven handle system, perfectly flush with the outer door panel when not in use and deployable when required, was excellently explained by presenter Lee Piotrowski in all its technical construction aspects and requirements induced by its special and demanding design – ranging from ergonomic considerations to functional demands on the deployment even under severe ice up conditions.

Once again, promoting ideas for the construction and production of such parts was the goal of the this years´s international Automotive Circle conference on  Doors and Closures in Car Body Engineering in Bad Nauheim. With hands-on presentations of latest OEM series hang-on-part projects, the discussion of new solutions by importing system suppliers, an inspiring glimpse onto neighboring industry developments and the chance to inspect a number of recently launches full vehicles, the conference again
addressed its network of 210 expert automobile engineers from all over the world.
