29 - 30 April 2009
Module 2:  Thermal and mechanical joining processes

Joining – A core problem

The interplay of reduced CO2 emissions / cost-effective and flexible production / innovative design has made it clear that modern car bodies will boast a complex mix of materials. High-strength steels, advanced aluminium alloys and / or composite materials will be used where they can best show off their properties – and where economic considerations allow. How to apply joining methods efficiently in this situation is a core problem for automotive engineers: While there is a need for new techniques to join disparate, often thermally sensitive materials, there is also a desire for a minimised number of globally deployable methods of sufficient versatility to cope with the growing model diversity and resultant production flexibility.

Against this background, the three-day Automotive Circle International Conference on “Joining in Automotive Engineering” will again address the current performance of modern joining methods. With detailed progress reports on innovative car body joining projects at OEMs as well as technical presentations on current developments by major system suppliers and research institutes, Bad Nauheim will again welcome the world’s most respected international network of car body engineering experts, as they gather to define the state of this technology.

In its well approved structure, the conference offers two separate modules that will deal with innovations in adhesive bonding technology and hybrid bonding processes on the one hand, and examine the latest advances in thermal and mechanical joining methods on the other.

Furthermore, in the exhibitor’s forum new products and trends all around the topic of joining in automotive engineering are presented to the interested conference delegates making this three-day event the most significant innovation platform and hub for the exchange of experience of top echelon automobile experts and system suppliers.

The conference is aimed at:
  • Automotive engineers at OEMs, engineering service providers and system suppliers, with responsibility for joining projects in the planning, predevelopment and development, production and research levels.
