Strategic Questions in Car Body Engineering 2009

With the following car body presentations:
BMW 7 series, Lotus Evora, E-Mini, SuperLightCar Project

Time to act

With the recent decisions within the EU, the issue a the core of automotive construction is not weight reduction, but reduction of CO2 emissions. The costs of automotive CO2 emissions have now become calculable, and hence it is also possible to assess additional costs that are associated with various lightweight and ultra-lightweight measures in car body engineering. Now is the time for all OEMs to decide upon their strategy to fulfil their specific emission reduction obligations, in the planning and development of the next automobile generations. For this, the Automotive Circle International conference "Strategic Questions in Car Body Engineering" offers the leading technical forum. Here, the worldwide most reputable network of OEM car body engineering experts gathers again to present and reflect future-oriented car body development and production strategies, together with representatives of important engineering companies and system suppliers. The goal is to initiate the right developments in the various automotive market and cost segments, across the entire process chain "painted car body".

Specific issues at this year's event include:
  • Demands for more flexible production processes and cost reductions often are in conflict with substantial weight reductions. How can material and joining concepts, as well as production and manufacturing systems cope with this situation, also taking into account requests for globally available solutions?

  • Lightweight and ultra-lightweight car body design strategies and their contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions: What do new material concepts based on aluminium, carbon fibres or steel have to offer?

  • What are the consequences of the obligatory electric propulsion options for the car body development of the future? Will lightweight car body solutions have to counteract the additional weight in the powertrain?

  • What technologies are viable in the globally growing Affordable Car segment? Which are not?

This international conference addresses:

Automotive engineers with responsibilities in the planning, pre-development and development, production as well as research, from OEM as well as engineering service providers and system suppliers.
